Then in the forest, we will see our first Sulawesi Babblers,a plain bird with a pleasant song. The coast trail should produced many endemics including Green Imperial Pigeons , White-bellied Imperial Pigeons, and Grey-cheeked Green Pigeons, Small and Large Sulawesi Hanging Parrots almost side by side. Spectacular Fiery-billed Malkolas may be seen in the trees and Black-fronted White-eyes low down in the scrub. Ornate Lorikeets and Grosbeak Starlings may be flying overhead along with Blue-backed Parrots. We may spot Sulawesi Black Pigeon, Sulawesi Triller and many Sulawesi Cicadabirds should be seen here. Green-backed Kingfisher or Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher both endemic, would provide a great sighting for the tour. On our walk back we may spot the impressive Ashy Woodpecker ,and the superb Black-naped Fruit-Dove. Once we emerge from the forest, Ivory-backed Woodswallow may be seen flying over or we may spot the gorgeous Yellow-sided Flower pecker.
One of the best places to observe the island’s remarkable natural phenomena is the impressive Tangkoko Nature Reserve in northern Sulawesi. This 8,750-hectare conservation area, 30 km north of Bitung, was established around three jungle-clad peaks and includes coastline and coral gardens offshore. A veritable cross-section of Sulawesi’s rare animal life and rainforest flora inhabit this geologically fascinating area of deep folding valleys, dry woodlands, hot springs and volcanic craters.
Although hunting has resulted in the local extinction of the babirusa, there are still plentiful tarsiers, a tiny nocturnal insect-eating primate, Indonesia’s highest density of crested black macaques, the bear cuscus, the aggressive anoa, flying lizards, the curious maleo, as well as hornbills, cockatoos, and in the coastal fringes marine birds such as frigates and sea eagles. In addition, a full range of floral communities typical of North Sulawesi are represented – from lowland to sub-mountain and from sandy beaches to full-blown rain forests.
WHAT TO DO
Most of the travellers are doing overnight trip in to the area. And most of them is devide the trip in two parts of trip which is afternoon trip and morning trip. Afternoon trip is mostly focus on Tarsius spectrum due to the animals is nocturnal, and the morning trips is mostly for another wild life who does exist during the day time.
WHAT TO SEE
The Tangkoko Nature Reserve is beyond question the most accessible place to view tarsiers spectrum claimed as a smallest primate in the world within 200 gr and 15 cm, red-knobbed hornbills and crested black macaques in the wild.
It’s also possible to obtain a permit on arrival at the entrance to the reserve in Batuputih, where guides are also available. You have to hire a guide to explore the reserve along designated hiking trails. The best time to see wildlife is at dawn and dusk.

Be sure to also bring a hat, long pants, good shoes, thick socks, extra water, insect repellant for use against biting mites, and plenty of film or a fully charged digital camera.
HOW TO GET THERE
Take you flights from abroad to Jakarta in West Java or Denpasar in Bali. Also such us Asian countries within Malaysia and Singapore. When you arrive in these countries and cities, conect your flights to Manado city, North Sulawesi. Manado city is a capital of North Sulawesi. About 15 Km from airport and reachable by taxi, or microlet in one hour on traffic. As a modern city, Manado has all facilities you need during your travelling, such as Accommodation from Homestay, Guesthouse, Lodge, Villa, or star and non star hotels. Credit card acceptable in some resorts and hotel, also in all transaction of shopping mall in the area. Base your journey at this town. From Manado is easier to conecting all destination include Tangkoko Natural Reserve. From Manado you can take a rent car and driving for two hours.
Or by the public transport within from Manado take a blue buses to Paal dua terminal, then change to the public bus for Bitung city, from Bitung terminal, change with Pick up car as a public transport to Batu putih village, within total time by public transports take about 5-6 hours, due to the waiting time of the other passanger. The bus or public transport always waiting until all seats are fill by people, to leave. And the waiting time is so relative.
